Well, it was time check out this movie despite what Elaine said. I wasnt too sure what to expect, a lot of my friends said it was good, but it looked from the exterior to be a movie full of more sap than all the trees in Wisconsin. Well, I was pleasantly surprised. I got an epic tale that included all the best elements of drama. Love, loss, hate, revenge, sadness and peace. I got an excellent WW2 period piece that included some wonderful characters and excellent stories told from the mixed memories of a horribly wounded patient. The jump from one story line to another never gives you a chance to favor one which happens way too much for movies like this. Both plot lines keep you waiting for more and are equally interesting. The DVD was a Miramax nightmare. The Dolby Digital 5.1 sound was quite good, but the picture was not 16x9 enhanced and there were no extras. Overall an excellent movie, but it deserved much more from the DVD format.
