This is the way Portrait of a Lady should have been. Less crying, shorter runtime and more shots of Cameron Diaz in a bra. Frankly I dont know what the big deal about this picture was. When it came out all I heard about was all the dark humor and tasteless jokes. I really didnt get that. Some of the scenes that were possibly put in as comic relief were to me not funny and therefore the dark humor was lost in the development. Ok, now I have to get this out of the way. Cameron Diaz is a total total major league hottie. Definitely an E on the hexadecimal rating chart. Sorry, back to the point. Frankly I thought this movie handled the situation of one girl who has something that men instantly fall for. Unlike the above mentioned "Lady", this movie didnt have the main character do anything but deal with her situations. There was no weeping about how hard her life was since so many men loved her and no heart throbbing scenes of her running in slow motion. There was only a group of guys who all were in love with the same girl. Wrap that plot around some pretty funny situations and some great comedic actors and you get a pretty good film. No, it isnt Lawrence of Arabia, but it still is a good time. The DVD is a Fox miscarriage. While it did have an ok Dolby Digital 5.1 soundtrack, it did not have a much needed 16x9 transfer. The DVD did include some cut scenes that shows a very provocative use of a foam tongue and a commentary track I have yet to listen to. While it is a pretty good movie, I cant see this being the true collectors edition with a lame video transfer. Give it a rent, but dont make it a permanent piece.
