There is a defining truth to home theater. Any home theater system is only as good as the movies it shows. It doesn't matter if you have a $200,000 Runco / Meridian system, if you are watching "My Best Friend's Wedding", you've already lost.
This list represents some of the truly great films of our time. Each of these films improved the entire industry. They are each works of art, representing the best in cinematography, acting, sets, costumes, music, story, and writing. Print out a copy of this list and walk through it movie by movie. You will not be disappointed.
The hype factor has been weighted into the factors for determining what movies make the list. A movie has to be greater than the hype for it to be included. For example, Star Wars, Citizen Kane, and Shawshank Redemption are simply as good as people think they are. Everyone knows they are good, there is no use adding them to this list. These movies, however, are greater than people give credit for.
This list is not in any particular order. It would be too difficult to compare The Matrix with Bridge over the River Kwai.
